At the crossroads of a new movement in Irish music, NOTIFY breathes new life into their music, with “a musical tapestry that ranges from soft melodies to crashing crescendos”.
NOTIFY are an Irish based instrumental ensemble featuring well-known concertina player Pádraig Rynne, Cillian King on guitars & concertina, Eoin Walsh on electric bass, Davie Ryan on drums and Cormac McCarthy on piano and rhodes.
The band delivers an evocative repertoire of original melody compositions, produced with sensitive electronic overlays and inventive arrangements that are “cinematic in scope”.
NOTIFY seamlessly fuses a deep knowledge and respect for musical tradition with forward thinking innovation in a tasteful way that connects with audiences worldwide. The formation of musicians from backgrounds in Jazz, Traditional Irish, Electronic, Pop and Funk music has naturally established a system of balance that instantly draws listeners to the music.
In 2015, NOTIFY signed with world famous American Jazz label Ropeadope. “InConcept” was released on 8th April 2016. It premiered at the no. 1 spot in the iTunes Jazz charts and at no. 9 in the mainstream iTunes charts.
As well as headlining Jazz, World and Irish festivals worldwide, NOTIFY were commissioned by the Arts Councils of Ireland and Northern Ireland to collaborate with double Grammy award winning guitarist, Mark Lettieri (Snarky Puppy) in 2017. 2018 sees the band continue to release new music. This new music will take the band in a new direction of releasing videos and audio through the Digital platforms available.
PÁDRAIG RYNNE – CONCERTINAS
Described as “one of the freshest sounds in Irish music” by fRoots, Pádraig Rynne is a virtuoso musician, prolific composer and is regarded as one of the finest concertina players in Irish music today.
With a Masters in Music Technology and a passion for experimenting with diverse genres, Pádraig is recognized for his re-freshing explorations into the Irish Tradition and beyond.
His band work includes, founder and former member of the ground breaking Irish/Breton band Guidewires and current member of Atlantic Arc Orchestra, Aeons and Triad. Rynne has curated a number of high profile ensembles and tours including Irish Arts Council funded projects Dán, Atlantic I/O and NOTIFY + Pauline Scanlon.
Pádraig’s name can be seen on a number of well known albums as a performer, producer, composer, recording and mixing engineer.
His touring expeditions have taken him around the Globe working in many different genres including World, Pop, Traditional Irish and Electronic.
CORMAC MCCARTHY – PIANO AND KEYBOARDS
Cormac McCarthy is a composer, arranger and pianist born in Cork, Ireland. He began studying piano aged four, and soon after discovered the joy of composition. He has gone on to perform and compose in a wide range of musical genres; from classical to jazz to Irish traditional music.
In 2010 Cormac received the prestigious Bill Whelan International Music Bursary from Bill Whelan, an award earmarked for young Irish composers studying abroad. He spent a number of years living in Chicago, where he completed a Masters in Jazz Studies at DePaul University. His compositions and arrangements have been performed and recorded regularly throughout the American Midwest, including two separate recordings with jazz icons Phil Woods and Jeff Hamilton. As a pianist, he has performed extensively at concert venues, clubs and festivals throughout Europe and the US.
Cormac’s most recent project, Cottage Evolution centres around music he has written for a 12-piece ensemble, and features musicians from an interesting and diverse blend of musical backgrounds. The project’s debut album is due for release shortly.
CILLIAN KING – GUITARS AND CONCERTINA
Limerick native Cillian King is one of the most in demand musicians and singers at the moment. He has been touring across the world playing music from the age of 15 and at 17 released his first recording with the band ‘Éalú’ to critical acclaim.
The multi-instrumentalist who’s also regarded as one the finest up and coming concertina players of his generation recently released an EP of original songs entitled “Could Be Kings” which was well received by the media in 2014. This debut as a songsmith earned him a recent nomination for ‘Best Male Solo Act’ at the Pure M Awards 2015 alongside the likes of Duke Special, Paddy Casey and Mundy. It cemented his arrival amongst a rich stream of singers and songwriters to emerge from Ireland in recent years.
In 2016, Cillian and his long time musical partner, Cillian Doheny of Moxie, released an album entitled Affinity. The duo (Known as Atlas) created music that represents all the music these musicians have grown up with and the music they have grown to love in more recent times.
DAVIE RYAN – DRUMS
Davie is a graduate of both UCC and of Cork School of Music. He has extensive experience both nationally and internationally as a touring and recording musician in a range of diverse genres including, Jazz, Folk, Pop, Rock, World and Traditional music.
He has played with many recent up and coming Irish artists including, The Hard Ground, The Niall McCabe Band, The Paul Dunlea Group, Cormac McCarthy’s Cottage Evolution, Jack O Rourke, Anna Mitchell, John Blek & The Rats and Karl Nesbitt.
Davie’s impressive reputation has led to high profile collaborations with renowned studio producers, including Grammy award winning Jay Joyce (Tragedy Tragedy Studios, Nashville), Kieran Byrne (Cauldron Studios, Dublin), Christian Best, and John Fitzgerald.
EOIN WALSH – ELECTRIC BASS
Since first taking up the bass in his late teens, Eoin has become one of the most in-demand musicians in Ireland.
Eoin has played alongside such musicians as Dónal Lunny, John Spillane, David Lyttle, Jean Toussaint, Robert Mitchell, Sylvain Barou, Pauline Scanlon, Éamonn Cagney, Nick Roth, Claudia Schwab and C.S.L. Parker and has worked on recordings both as a multi-instrumentalist and/or writer with artists such as Christian Eigner, David Lyttle, Colm K, Brian Deady, Cormac McCarthy, Jeremy Kittel and Paul Dunlea. Eoin has been featured on releases from labels such as Bastard Jazz (New York), Tummy Touch (New York/London) and Lyte Records (Northern Ireland) and has also performed on BBC and RTE radio and television programmes.
In 2013, Eoin received a scholarship from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston and was also shortlisted for a Fulbright Award. Eoin holds a first class honours Bmus degree from the Cork School of Music.
